Where ICE Transfers Go

An ICE transfer is not the same thing as a community release. If Glenn County Jail releases a person to ICE, the county jail custody has ended, but immigration custody may have begun or continued. The Glenn County jail record should be used to confirm that county custody ended and to identify whether the release type was a transfer, release to agency, detainer, hold, or similar notation. The immigration custody status then belongs to ICE, not the county jail.

ICE's Online Detainee Locator System is at locator.ice.gov. USA.gov describes using the locator for people currently held by ICE, searchable by A-number or by name, country of birth, and birth date. LawHelpCA describes ODLS as covering current ICE custody and helping identify people released from ICE custody within the last six days. That six-day window is immigration-specific and should not be described as a Glenn County 72-hour release list.

The Glenn County source set did not verify a local ICE detention facility or county ICE contract. Local records can still matter. How to Check ICE Custody

Use ICE ODLS only for the immigration custody piece. It is not a Glenn County jail roster and does not prove that the person was or was not released from local jail unless paired with a jail record.

1. Confirm the Glenn County Jail event first. If the person appeared in a Recent Bookings PDF, record the exact name, inmate number, booking date, arresting agency, warrant or charge details, and any transfer or hold language.
2. Request or verify the Glenn County booking/release record through the Sheriff's Office when the online booking PDF does not show release status.
3. Open ICE ODLS at locator.ice.gov. Search by A-number if known, or by name, country of birth, and date of birth.
4. If the person appears, review current ICE custody information and follow ICE instructions for facility or contact routing. If the person does not appear, try spelling variations and confirm that the person is not in BOP, CDCR, another county, or a court-only status.
5. Use the Glenn Superior Court case record to determine whether the local criminal case ended, continued, resulted in a sentence, or included a warrant or hold that affected the custody exit.

ODLS may require JavaScript. A missing result is not a universal release confirmation. The person may be outside ICE custody, recently transferred, booked under a different spelling, younger than public-search coverage allows, in another federal system, in state custody, or not within the short released-from-ICE window described by LawHelpCA.

ICE and Local Records Contact

This page is a service path, not a local facility page. Do not call a nonexistent Glenn County ICE jail. Use the county contact for the local release or transfer record, then use ICE ODLS and official immigration channels for immigration detention status.

For the county request, ask for the public booking and release record showing whether the person was released to the community or transferred to another agency. Include the person's full name, date of birth if known, arrest date, booking date, inmate number, arresting agency, warrant number, charge, and any suspected detainer or transfer language. For ICE ODLS, an A-number is the cleanest identifier when available.

About the ICE Path

The Facility Map identifies this page as the ICE / immigration custody path. It is not a Glenn County jail and not a BOP page. Its purpose is to explain the status boundary created by a detainer or transfer: county custody can end even though the person remains detained by immigration authorities. That distinction is essential for released-inmate research because families often hear that someone was "released" from jail without knowing whether the release was to the street or to another agency.

ICE detainers and federal holds are common points of confusion. A release type may appear as released to agency, transferred to ICE, hold released to agency, or similar language depending on the jail system. The public Glenn County Recent Bookings PDFs reviewed for this project do not show release fields, so the release type may require a Sheriff's Office records request. If a detainer controlled the exit, ODLS is the next public search point, not the county Recent Bookings page.

Immigration custody is also separate from criminal case disposition. A Glenn Superior Court case may show charges, bail, warrant status, sentencing, dismissal, probation, or other local criminal events. It may not show ICE release status. ODLS may show current immigration custody or a short recent-release window, while the court case explains the local criminal side. Both may be needed to understand what happened after a Glenn County jail exit.

Detainer vs Community Release

A community release means the person left custody subject to whatever court, probation, parole, or other legal obligations apply. A transfer to ICE means the person left Glenn County custody for immigration custody. Both can look like a county release from the jail's perspective, but they are different outcomes for the person and family. The local record should answer the county release type; ODLS should answer current ICE custody where the public tool has coverage.

If ODLS shows the person in ICE custody, the county release has not ended the custody story. If ODLS does not show the person, continue checking the local release record, court case, CDCR if there was a state-prison sentence, and BOP if the matter was federal. Do not assume that no ICE result means no detainer ever existed. The timing and search identifiers matter.

Local Jail Exit Logistics

Glenn County Jail has local release-adjacent rules that may matter even when an ICE detainer or transfer is involved. The Incarcerated Persons Handbook says that within the first 24 hours after booking, an incarcerated person can release money and keys by property release form. After the first 24 hours, only keys are released. Clothing and personal property are released only when the person has been sentenced to state prison. Commissary not received before a custody exit can be designated for pickup, and pickup must occur within seven days of delivery or it will be disposed of.

Those property rules do not answer ICE custody status, but they help explain why family members may need both local jail contact and federal immigration locator checks. Property, money, commissary, and booking/release records remain local Glenn County issues. Immigration custody, facility location, and recent ICE release status are ICE issues.

Sibling Custody Paths

Use Glenn County Jail for the county booking, local release record, transfer-out record, notification request, and property rules. Use California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institutions serving Glenn County sentences when the case became a state-prison matter. Use Federal Bureau of Prisons custody serving federal cases from Glenn County when the person is in sentenced federal prison custody. The systems can appear in sequence. A person might be booked locally, appear in a Glenn County PDF, have a court case, transfer to another agency, and then appear in ICE, BOP, or CDCR records. The correct release answer names the exact custody transition instead of treating every agency exit as a Glenn County community release.

Public Record Boundaries

Immigration, jail, and court records have different public access rules. ODLS is a public locator, not a full immigration file. Glenn County release records may be partly public and partly withheld because of privacy, safety, investigation, juvenile, sealed-record, or other limits. Court records may explain charges and orders without showing immigration custody. When a person's location or status is urgent, use official locator and agency routes rather than relying on old booking PDFs or third-party summaries.
